Welcome to the Friends of AHS Website! Here you will find up-to-date information about legislative issues, how they affect the Arizona Historical Society, and how you can help inform your legislators on AHS goals and needs. Founded by the First Territorial Legislature on November 7, 1864, the Arizona Historical Society is the state’s oldest cultural institution. A membership-based organization, its mission is “to collect, preserve, interpret, and disseminate the history of Arizona, the West, and northern Mexico as it pertains to Arizona.” Today, it houses the world’s largest collection of Arizona history documents, artifacts, and photographs. Its exhibits, publications, educational programs, and outreach efforts reach thousands of people throughout the state, the nation, and the world. AHS is also an agency of the State of Arizona that relies on legislative funding to accomplish its important mission. This website will inform AHS members and supporters of pending legislation that affects the Society, provide information on when and how to contact lawmakers, and issue timely calls to act on behalf of AHS.
